Alan L. Winik is the founding member and managing partner of the Law Office of Alan L. Winik, LLC.  A member of the Maryland Bar since 1975, Alan has enjoyed a storied career, fighting on both sides of the courtroom. He has gone from being the first narcotics task force prosecutor in the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office to a senior manager for a major electronics company in the corporate world to representing the Baltimore City Police and Fire Departments to serving as a Special Assistant United State Attorney.

Today, Alan is a premier criminal defense attorney and is known throughout the courthouse for his fierce advocacy.  There is no major felony case that Alan hasn’t seen:  felony assault, felony theft, murder and child pornography. He has an innate ability to see all facets of a case.  But even if you, or a loved one, are charged with a less severe criminal case, you know Alan has your back and will treat your case with the same level of advocacy. Alan is also one of the few attorneys in town who is licensed to practice in Federal Court.

Alan has also developed a high-end divorce clientele.  Not all practicing family law attorneys have the experience to understand complicated financial issues. If there are major financial issues at play in your divorce case, whether it is complicated business or property ownership, multiple retirement asset divisions, or debt management, Alan not only has the background to understand what you are dealing with, walk you through the process, and argue to the Court, but also has the resources in the community to obtain experts to testify at trial.

Alan has been a fixture in the Frederick community for decades.  It is difficult to walk down Market Street with Alan without being stopped by bankers, teachers, police officers and just everyday people. He taught at Catonsville Community College and Frederick Community College, and served on the Frederick Historic District and Police Commissions.  Alan is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Bar Association of Frederick County, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Maryland Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Family Law Section of the MSBA.  Alan holds degrees from Western Maryland College and the University of Maryland, School of Law.

Currently, Alan lives in the “snack food capital of the world” Hanover, Pennsylvania with his wife Paula and their cat - Agatha Christie Cat.
